Beach Stay in Kalutara

Been there recently?

Kalutara is a major city in the Western Province of Sri Lanka and was once famous for its spice-trading hub, but now better known for producing some of Sri Lankas best mangosteens (a purple-coloured fruit). Despite being a bustling town, it boasts a quiet, unspoilt, long pristine beach, backed by palmed-sprinkled greenery – so quiet, you are likely to see more fishing boats than bathing tourists on it, but you might come across an occasional stall or authentic eatery. In addition to sandy beaches, the town also enjoys several historic sites including the impressive Buddhist Complex, Kalutara Bhodiya, that features the world’s only hollow Buddha shrine as well as a sacred bodhi tree.

Uniquely secluded between the Indian Ocean and the Kalu Ganga River, Anantara Kalutara Resort is the only luxury hotel in Sri Lanka to boast 360-degree ocean and lagoon views. Here you can enjoy peaceful yoga and meditation, soothing tropical swimming pools and thrilling water sports in addition to spending time on the beautiful beach. You can even indulge in a luxury pampering treatment at the spa whilst the youngsters are entertained in the kids or teens clubs. There are all sorts of unusual guest experiences available at the resort too including a Spice Spoons cookery class, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Glider adventure tower with zipline and arts/craft activities – there is literally something to keep everyone busy!
