Luxury Beach stay in Weligama

Been there recently?

Weligama, meaning ‘sandy village’ is a quiet and relatively traffic-free fishing town and beach resort on the south coast of Sri Lanka, famous for its traditional use of stilt fishing in which locals make it look easy and comfortable.

You will be staying in Weligama’s luxury Relais & Chateux resort, Cape Weligama – a collection of spacious villas and suites overlooking the Indian Ocean, each with their own veranda, steam room, private tropical garden and semi-private pool.

Set amongst 12 tropical acres, this glorious resort boasts many unusual features including a breath-taking 60m infinity pool which curves around the cape’s summit to offer 270-degree spectacular coastal views. There is also a 20m swimming pool, a well-equipped air-conditioned gym, child minding services, luxury spa facilities and an adventure centre from which you can enjoy various water sports including surf lessons, sea kayaks, canoes, stand up paddles and body boards as well as access the official PADI Dive Centre. 4 luxury boats are available for whale watching excursions, a SCUBA diving trip or sunset cruise, whilst the adventurous might enjoy flying across the waves on a Banana boat ride. For those preferring to explore on dry land, mountain bikes are also available from the adventure centre as well as craft making activities for the whole family to enjoy such as shawls, sarongs and masks making.

Today, your English-speaking guide and driver will introduce you to some of the iconic sites of Galle, the provincial capital and largest city on the picturesque southwest coast of Sri Lanka’s. Galle is a fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century; its stone sea walls encircle car-free streets making it a delight to explore on foot.
